Respiratory system vocab: TWF
Vocabulary for Study Guide

Pulmonary artery- One of the blood vessels that carries blood from the heart to the lungs.

Bronchus- One of the two tubes into which the trachea, or windpipe divides. Each bronchus branches again into smaller and similar airways.

Lung- One of the two large spongy organs that fill most of the chest. The lungs are filled with the many-branched tubes of the bronchial tree through which air passes.

Ribs- The twelve pairs of bones that curve around from the back to the chest. Together they form a bony cage that protects the heart and lungs.

Trachea- A short tube that joins the upper part of the respiratory system to the bronchi, which lead into the lungs.

Pulmonary Artery- One of the blood vessels that carries blood from thee heart to the lungs.

Pulmonary Vein- One of the blood vessels that carries oxygenated blood from the lungs to the heart to be pumped around the body.
